SPRINT® - SP Resin Infusion Technology – is a unique patented material and processing technology that allows high quality composite components, with high mechanical properties and very low void content, to be produced rapidly and economically.

 

SPRINT® materials consist of a layer of fibre reinforcement either side of a pre-cast, precatalysed resin film with a very lightweight tack film on one face. The material therefore has the appearance of dry reinforcement, which has resin concealed at its center. SPRINT® materials are produced by a process that differs from conventional prepreg so that the fibres in the reinforcements remain dry and unimpregnated by the resin.

 

SPRINT® materials are laid up in a mould and vacuum bagged as for conventional prepreg. However, when the vacuum is applied, the air transport properties of the dry reinforcement enable air trapped in the fibre bundles and between layers to be easily removed. When the temperature is then raised for the cure, the resin film softens and flows into the air-free reinforcement. The void content of the resultant laminate is extremely low (typically 0-0.5%).

ST70 is part of the range of SPRINT® products. This unique product range provides technically and commercially competitive engineering materials, ideal for use either solely, or in conjunction with other products from within the product range along with other SP products.

 

ST70 is a hot melt, Diuron free epoxy SPRINT® ideally suited to the manufacture of thick sections. It can be cured at temperatures as low as 70°C, but can also be used for the rapid manufacture of components through its 25-minutecure at 120°C. All of this can be achieved together with an out-life of 30 days at 21°C (Glass) 21 days at 21°C (Carbon).

 

ST70 is designed for vacuum bag processing and offers excellent mechanical performance on glass fibre reinforcements. Currently ST70 is manufactured into a SPRINT® structure with E-glass and Carbon fibres, which are manufactured into biax or woven materials. This data sheet is concerned with glass reinforcements.

ST70FR is a fire retardant hot melt, Diuron free epoxy SPRINT®. This is ideally suited to the manufacture of thick sections requiring fire protection. It can be cured at temperatures as low as 70°C, but can also be used for the rapid manufacture of components through its 25-minute cure at 120°C. All of this can be achieved together with an outlife of 28 days at 21°C.

 

ST70FR is designed for vacuum bag processing and offers excellent mechanical performance on glass fibre reinforcements. Currently ST70FR is manufactured into a Single Sided SPRINT® structure primarily with fibreglass reinforcements such as woven WRE581T, WRE850T fabrics and multiaxial XE905 and QE1174 stitched fabrics. Other styles will be available to order.

The patent-approved ST 95 Structural SPRINT® is a moulding material that consists of two layers of glass/carbon reinforcement either side of a precast, precatalysed resin film. The material therefore has the appearance of dry reinforcement which has resin concealed at its centre. Glass SPRINT® is available in woven or unidirectional fabric skewed to ± 45° angles in a range of weights and fabric formats with a light tack film on one side to aid mould placement.

 

ST 95 is a toughened hot-melt, epoxy resin that offers an extremely good balance of mechanical properties. It has been specially formulated to maximise the outlife of SPRINT® products at room temperature. It is ideal for structural components where improved impact performance and resistance to resin microcracking is desired. ST 95 has a flexible cure envelope from 12 hours at 85°C to 1 hour at 120°C. This makes it suitable for use in regular part production as well as for the development of trial components.

 

Structural SPRINT® ST 95 can be used in the manufacture of a vast range of structural applications such as chassis, bulkheads, hulls and decks, for automotive and marine markets, as well as many other industrial applications. The material is highly drapeable and has been designed for simple vacuum bag processing.

ST 90FR is a fire-retardant, hot-melt, epoxy prepreg system that offers an extremely good balance of mechanical properties. It has been tested to MVSS302 and FAR25.853 (60 secs and 12 secs vertical burn) fire safety standards. When used in conjuncation with SF 80FRBL, meets DIN4102-B1 fier

 

The system is ideal for structural components where self-extinguishing fire performance and high load bearing capability are desired.

 

ST 90FR can be cured at 90°C, yet retains an outlife of up to 56 days at 23°C. With its 90 minute cure at 120°C, it is also suitable for the quick manufacture of parts, and is also used in the development of trial components.

SF 80 surfacing material is a light green toughened, epoxy film designed to enhance the surface finish of moulded composite components. It allows a good surface finish to be obtained by vacuum-bag moulding processes. It can be used directly against a suitably release treated mould surface, with prepreg or

 

SPRINT® plies laid up behind it.

When fully cured with SPRINT® or prepreg, SF 80 forms a stable tough surface which can be sanded in preparation for painting. The epoxy system is supplied ready impregnated into a supporting medium and ready catalysed, requiring only a moderate temperature cure.

 

Availability
SF 80 surfacing material is currently available in 150g film weight. It is supplied in roll lengths of 50lm.

SF 80FB surfacing material is a black, filled epoxy film containing a 320g intumescent layer. Typical applications include the protection of structural components in high risk areas such as engine bays, exhaust runs, and around the fuel system.

 

SF 80FB can be used directly against a suitably release treated mould surface, with prepreg or SPRINT® plies laid up behind it, or as a final layer in the mould. SF

80FB can be cured with vacuum only processing.

 

The epoxy system is supplied ready impregnated into a supporting medium and ready catalysed, requiring only a moderate temperature cure.

During service intumescent layer combusts to form a stable, insulating char which will protect the underlying substrate from ignition by expanding to 9mm.

Insulating Properties: The intumescent layer is formulated to minimise the generation of toxic fumes under fire conditions.

SF 80FROBL surfacing material is a black, filled epoxy film. It provides an effective fire retarding layer capable of withstanding exposure to fire, while preventing the epoxy substrate from combustion. Typical applications include protection of structural components in high risk areas such as engine bays, exhaust runs, and around the fuel system.

 

SF 80FROBL can be used directly against a suitably release treated mould surface, with prepreg or SPRINT® plies laid up behind it, or as a final layer in the mould.

 

The product is sufficiently tacky to aid placement into vertical surfaces of a mould. SF 80FROBL can be cured with vacuum only processing.

 

The epoxy system is supplied ready impregnated into a supporting medium and ready catalysed, requiring only a moderate temperature cure.

 

Availability

 

SF 80FROBL surfacing material is available in a 220g film weight and supplied on 50lm rolls. It is also available preapplied to a 600g skewed carbon SPRINT®, considerably reducing component layup time. In this configuration, the product is supplied in rolls of 25lm.

                                              The SF 95PF surfacing material is a grey filled epoxy film designed to enhance the surface finish of moulded composite components. It allows a good surface finish to be obtained by vacuum-bag moulding processes. It can be used directly against a suitably release treated mould surface, with prepreg or SPRINT® plies laid up behind it.   When fully cured with SPRINT® or prepreg, SF 95PF forms a stable sandable surface which, once lightly sanded to provide a key for painting, provides a pin-hole free laminate. The epoxy system is supplied ready impregnatedinto a supporting medium and ready catalysed, requiring only a moderate temperature cure. Availability

    ST 94 is a toughened hot-melt, epoxy resin that offers an extremely good balance of mechanical properties. It has been formulated to give an ideal tack level at workshop temperature. It is ideal for structural components where improved impact performance and resistance to resin microcracking is desired. ST 94 has a flexible cure envelope from 12 hours at 85°C to 45 minutes at 120°C. This makes it suitable for use in regular part production as well as for the development of trial components.

ST - 94 Single SPRINT

 

 

 

SPRINT Core Material S-Core from SP-High Modulus >>>

  • The S-Core, or SPRINT® core, is a moulding material that consists of a single layer of a polyester non woven material, that has a pressure stable honeycomb structure, applied to a precast, precatalysed resin film. The moulding material therefore has the appearance of dry reinforcement on one face and resin on the other.

  • S-Core is intended for use as a core material and must be accompanied by SPRINT® laminate on both faces. It has been designed for simple vacuum bag processing. The product is highly drapeable making it ideal for use in curved or complex areas where foams would be difficult to use. The material has tack on one face allowing it to be easily positioned into the mould. The material cures to a density of just 0.65 and thickness of 4mm making it ideal for bulking out laminates with minimal extra weight and cost. S-Core is ideal for use in a variety of structural items for Automotive, Marine and Industrial applications.
